THE TOPKAPI PALACE
At the far end of Sultanahmet Square, about
a five-minute walk from the Hagia Sophia,
is Topkapı Palace. Overlooking the Bospho-
rus, the massive compound was the chief
residence of the Ottoman sultans from the
15th to the 19th centuries. It’s a UNESCO
World Heritage Site and one of the most
important historical and cultural palace
complexes in Turkey.
