146 POSTCARDS FROM VIETNAM
We’re talking about motorbike traffic. Motor-
bikes swarm Vietnam like monster bees.
Buzzing, roaring, put-putting down every
street, along every alley, across every side-
walk, squeezing through the aisles of outdoor
markets. There are 90 million people in Viet-
nam and 45 million motorbikes. Cars? Maybe
a couple million..
156 SURF’S UP IN MOROCCO
The most recent trip was to surf off Morocco’s
Atlantic Coast. After four years of working as
a staff writer at The San Diego Union Tribune
and hanging out on the city’s many beaches, I’d
developed a middling ability to ride a long-
board on easy waves at La Jolla Shores and the
Tourmaline Surfing Park.
DANCING THROUGH THE CANAL
164 Dancing was foremost on my mind while planning
a recent Panama Canal Cruise. I needed a ship
with at least one great music venue where my hus-
band and I could let loose—and it had to open at a
reasonable hour (late nights are not our forte).
