NOYO HARBOR
A visit to Mendocino isn’t complete without a stop at Noyo Harbor. It’s a diverse
destination for water sports fans, boaters, nature lovers, and foodies. Visitors can
watch commercial fishing boats come and go in this authentic working harbor
while shopping seafood markets or enjoying a meal at one of the many eateries.
Charter fishing boats are based here too, and lodgings are nearby.
The economic heart of Fort Bragg, the harbor has a fascinating history that
spans the area’s ties to the lumber industry. The local first sawmill, the Albion, was
built here in 1858 at the mouth of the Noyo River, where it meets the Pacific
Ocean. For over 50 years, the Albion turned redwood logs into lumber. When de-
mand ebbed, a commercial fishing fleet replaced it, mooring the boats just off the
old mill site.
