130 I’LL TAKE THE HIGH ROAD
Of all the experiences I had anticipated in
Scotland, bumping and (gear) grinding my
way up an unpaved mountain road with a kilt-
wearing comedian riding shotgun had honestly
never crossed my mind.
136 BAD RAGAZ
Bathing was a ritual and social experience;
beautiful public baths were built with the
finest materials as temples to bathing and
the sacred waters within. One place with
such a history based on wellness through
water is Bad Ragaz in Switzerland
144 RESPITE IN OCEANSIDE
The sun was shining as I boarded the train to
Oceanside, a mere hour from home. I desperately
needed a quick solo getaway, and O’Side (as lo-
cals say) ticked my boxes.
156 LA GARDENS
When I told my fellow San Diegan that I was
choosing Los Angeles for my annual birthday
jaunt, she immediately replied, “That sounds
awful.”.
